::my other question: what is reason the z, rx7, 3000gt, and supras came with twin turbo's rather than a single turbo setup? is it just a lag issue, or are there any inherent benefits of a twin turbo setup? Well, i can only answer for 2 cars.. the Z and the VR4.. Both have V6's.. With the V engine design, exhaust exits on both sides of the engine.... It most likely would not be worth the effort or expense to design a V-6 with a single turbo because of the intricate piping that would need to be done.. (im not saying it isnt possible, It HAS been done, i forget what the car is called..) It is more eficcient to run 2 smaller tubos, each using only 3 cylinders. Lag is greatly reduced in this manner also. Also, the desgn of the Z focused on symettry (SP?) As you can see from popping the hood, so it would also necessitate dual turbos. As far as supras go.. These are Inline 6's, with all 6 cylinders exhaust exiting the same side of the engine.... these engines are much better suited to a single turbo set-up. (no doubt you have heard of a few monster-horsepower single turbo supras. (there is a T72'd turbo with lots of lag that dynoed 733 HP and ran the quarter mile in 14.0 at 120MPH in TULSA) Again, they prob came from the factory with 2 sequential turbos(NOT TWIN TURBOS, another story, use search) due to lag issues. Most likely the RX7 has 2 to help spool time also, though that is pure opinion..
